Please note: Alfred is now called Vinton but this blog was published prior to the name change.

In this blog we’ll walk you step-by-step through the setup of Alfred in your Salesforce Org. If you prefer to watch a video walkthrough, go to the installation video here.

Step 1: Enabling Digital Experiences

A pre-requisite for using Alfred in your Org is that Digital Experiences must be enabled. Note: there’s no commercial implication for you in relation to this.

Go to Setup and in Quick find, search for “digital experiences and click on Settings.

Step 2: Install Nativevideo

Nativevideo is the platform that powers Alfred. So before installing Alfred, you need to install Nativevideo. Go to the AppExchange page for the freemium Nativevideo product (not the free).

Click Get it now and begin the installation.

Step 3: Installing in your chosen environment

Accept the terms and conditions and then click Confirm and install.

In this step-by-step guide, we’re showing how to install Nativevideo in a production environment so click to install in production. You can of course choose sandbox if preferred.

Step 4: Accept terms

Check the box to accept the terms and conditions and then Confirm and install.

Step 5: Log into Salesforce

Next log in to Salesforce, Install for All Users and Approve third-party access.

It might take some time to install Nativevideo, but we’ll notify you by email once the installation is completed, so you can carry on with other work in the meantime.

Step 6: Check the package has installed

Once you’ve had confirmation the package has installed, you can double check by going to Setup and viewing the Installed Packages. Nativevideo should now show in the list.

Step 7: Nativevideo Admin

Next you need to connect the Nativevideo backend to your Org. Go to the App Launcher search for and then select Nativevideo Admin.

Step 8: Nativevideo configuration

First of all choose your preferred region. Then go to the Buffy Connector tab and Click here to (re)connect your user.

Next you’ll be asked to allow access to the Nativevideo Buffy Media Backend. Click Allow.

Refresh the page and check that you’re connected.

Step 9: Media platform advanced options

Then toggle on Show Advanced Options and enable:

  • transcription
  • sentiment on transcription
  • action item on transcriptions

Then Save.

Now your Org is ready to install Alfred.

Step 10: Get Alfred from AppExchange

Next you should install the Alfred app from the AppExchange. Browse to the Alfred page and click Get it now.

Step 11: Install Alfred

Choose where to install Alfred (Production or Sandbox), then agree to the Terms and Conditions (this will enable five free licences in your Org), confirm and install.

The installation will be quicker than Nativevideo as it’s a small configuration package.

Step 12: Enable Users

The next step is to assign the correct permission sets to the users who need access to Alfred.

In setup, Quick find, search for Users. Go to the user you want to assign permissions for. Click on their record and scroll down to the Permission Set Assignments section of their page.

Edit Assignments, then add Alfred Permissions and Nativevideo Permissions.

Step 13: Enable Licenses

In Production only, you’ll alow need to assign licenses to the User. Go to the Managed Packages section and click Assign Licenses.

Then tick the Alfred and Nativevideo packages and Add.

Step 14: View a Contact page for adding the Alfred widget

Next you need to decide which pages you want to display the Alfred widget on. Here we explain how to add the widget to a Contact view.

Firstly, in the App Launcher, search for Contacts. Then choose a contact to view.

Step 15: Edit the Contact page

Once viewing the Contact page, go up to the Setup cog in the top right and choose Edit Page.

Step 16: Drag and drop Alfred components

Next search for the Alfred components in the search box and then drag and drop the Alfred player and Alfred recorder into your Contact page, wherever you would like them to appear. Click Save.

Do the same process on Opportunities, Leads, Accounts or wherever else you’d like the Alfred components to appear.

Step 16: Test the Alfred recorder

Finally, test the Alfred audio note recorder is working properly. Browse to a Contact and your Alfred component should appear wherever you placed it.

Click on the Hey Alfred button and make a test recording. Save it and wait for it to process and then play it back, check the transcript, summary and follow-up.

After you’ve installed Nativevideo and Alfred, you can continue to setting up Alfred to join your calls.
